Welcome to Runawaywombat

Hi and Welcome. I hope you enjoy my blog and hope we can share my love of cooking and making craft items which I have made for many years. Juggling motherhood and work has been fun and a learning experience. Runawaywombat is an Etsy site where I create classic items which are vibrant, practical and fun. Many items from Aprons, Tea Towels, make up and storage bags. You can see my items by going to www.etsy.com/shop/runawaywombat. On the food front I made Lemon slice and honestly I can't make enough of it as it run off the plate with my family.

Once a upon a time

I was talking to my nieces the other day (the computer savvy people of today) asking them some advice on what I could write on my blog. As a look of horror appeared on their faces, which turned to saddness of disbelief, "Oh, Aunty, anything that comes to mind". The horror turned to me as I thought ANYTHING. What does that mean.

I write about my beloved craft creations and my compulsive need to put to much food on the table, always hoping it will be enough, but what else? Today I was left with my own thoughts and on came the light bulb, yes I've got it. Funny stories. Do you live in an awkward world where things happen and your only thoughts are ,this only happens to me. Well, I thought I might share some of mine with you.
I hope you get a laugh.

Grocery shopping, what could possibly happen here? you ask. Well, After doing my grocery shopping, I made my way to the checkout, when, one of those, "Oh I better remember the baby card" moments came and off I went to pick, Of course, the most beautiful baby card ever for my cousins newborn. I make my decision, after reading the funny birthday cards,( I love them) and make my way to the checkout.

As I put my items on the counter. The cashier picks up the baby card and comments " Oh, what a lovely card for your grandchild. Now, granted, I probably left the coloring of the hair a little long and should have gone two or three weeks before, but heck I was busy preparing these banquet meals.( of course, only an excuse.)At first, I didn't register what she said, and just laugh politely. As I paid for the items the realisation of what she said came to light. WHAT!!! WHAT!!! WHAT!!!( Ok maybe one too many whats.) I was horrified by what she said, Me a grandmother, at my age, how silly. But then when I did my sums, yeah, I guess it could be possible. But still, what a thing to say, at my age. What an outrage, but she could be right. All these thoughts, conclusions and calculations done while walking from the checkout and my car. As I put the groceries in the car a smile comes on my face and I laugh, I guess I am getting older. If you have a funny story let me know or leave a comment if this has ever happened to you.
